Captain Idris Wada- A Candidate to beat in 2011 Guber polls
Captain Idris Wada, the winner of the fresh primaries election
conducted by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] in Kogi State has
declared that he is the authentic candidate of the party for the
forthcoming governorship election slated for December 3, 2011.
Wada made the clarification while addressing his supporters in
Lokoja, against the backdrop of speculations in the state that President
Goodluck Jonathan had ordered that the ticket of the party should be
given to Alhaji Isah Jibril Echocho, the earlier winner of the primaries
election held in January before the Court of Appeal extended the tenure
of the outgoing governor by one year.
This is as he named Mr. Yomi Awoniyi, the son of Late Chief Sunday
Awoniyi former National Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum [ACF]
as his running mate for the governorship election.
According to Wada, "by the grace of Almighty God I am bold to say
that I have been cleared alongside my running mate, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi by
the national secretariat of our great party PDP to contest the
forthcoming governorship election as the flag bearer of the party for
He then urged his supporters and well-wishers to disregard any
reports in the media that he is no longer the flag bearer of the party
for the forthcoming governorship election, saying that those pending the
rumour want to cause disunity and crisis within the party.
Wada then promised that if given the mandate to be the next governor
of the state he would build on the solid foundation already laid down by
the out-going governor by keying into the transformation agenda of
President Goodluck Jonathan in ensuring rapid socio-economic development
of the state.
Similarly, he explained that his administration would focus on the
development of the educational, health, tourism and youth/women
empowerment sectors, adding that a conductive environment would be
created by his administration in order to attract investors to the state
which would go along way in assisting the state government address the
increasing rate of unemployment among the teeming youths.
